Dr. Xun Pan on The Cunningham Piano Show
For Dr. Xun Pan, the piano literally saved his life. The son of musician parents who survived the Cultural Revolution in China (1966-1976), he was forced to learn to play the piano in an attempt to help him leave China and study abroad. Dr. Pan initially wanted to study at the famed Moscow Conservatory, but after he witnessed the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989 firsthand, he decided to come to America instead, where he earned his Master's degree from Syracuse University and his Doctoral Degree from Rutgers. Dr. Pan is now the head of the keyboard studies department at Millersville University, and is devoting his life to help his children and students never experience what he suffered by bridging cultures and helping them to understand the wider world through music.
