Piano Tastings Ep. 5: The Rach Test
I play some challenging Rachmaninoff to put two similar-sized pianos - a 5'10" Cunningham and a 5'8" Yamaha G2 - to the ultimate tonal test.
I should note that the Yamaha is a reconditioned 20-year old instrument, while the Cunningham is a much newer model, having been out on the market for just a few years. Yamaha pianos in the past tended to be very bright (and dare I say, brittle?), but Rich explains that apparently the newer models have changed. If you have a newer Yamaha in your home or store, I'd love to come visit to hear the difference!
